Fund-raising exhibition

ISLAMABAD - Fashion exhibition organised by Hunnar Collections and Claudia, here Tuesday, was marked as an innovative event to raise money and increase awareness for the Leprosy Centre. The exhibition was a unique one as it creatively merged style and social responsibility via fair labour practices for home based women workers. Hunnar Collections has teamed up designers with home-based women workers for design innovation programmes and market access. It serves as a social enterprise that allows addressing social needs of the poor workers. The profits are shared with the women workers and this time, the part of the sale proceeds are given to the Leprosy Centre. Fashion must have a conscience too is the theme of Hunnar Collections. The clothes represented the vibrancy of the country beautifully blend Pakistani culture with contemporary styles. The collection also included fabric such as khadi (hand woven) fabric made by women in Bhalwalpur at most reasonable rates, Tanchui from Khairpur and lungi (sarong) from Jhang. The visitors to the exhibition appreciated the collection. The client base included top elite, housewives, wives of ambassadors, corporate houses, high and middle strata of the society and socialites. Pakistan has announced a textile policy that aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Pakistan textile and garment makers. Pakistani designers can play an important role promoting the textiles to off shores as high-end value added products, generating larger amounts of revenue for the country. Hunnar Collections has been tapping the potential of the countrys unique artisans and women workers who can also become the beneficiaries of initiatives under the textile policy.
