Acting CEC reviews arrangements for by-elections




ISLAMABAD - Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jillani Sunday reviewed arrangements made for holding free, fair and impartial bye-elections on 42 vacant seats of the national and provincial assemblies scheduled for August 24.
All the four provincial election commissioners, DGs and secretary attended the meeting.
The CEC would also chair another important meeting today (Monday) to discuss deployment of army (inside and outside) of the polling stations, overall security position, and rain and flood situation.
The meeting that will be attended by all the four chief secretaries, secretary defence, chairman National Disaster Management Authority, and Pakistan Meteorological Department.
Of the 42 vacant seats, 16 are for the national assembly including NA-48 (ICT) while 26 for the four provincial assemblies. These vacant seats include NA-1 Peshawar, NA-5 Nowshera, NA-13 Swabi, NA-25 DI Khan, NA-27 Lakki Marwat, NA-48 Islamabad, NA-68 Sargodha, NA-71 Mianwali, NA-83 Faisalabad, NA-103 Hafizabad, NA-129 Lahore, NA-177 Muzaffargarh, NA-235 Sanghar, NA-237 Thatta, NA-254 Karachi, and NA-262 Killa Abdullah.
While provincial assemblies vacant seats include PP-6 Rawalpindi, PP-51 Faisalabad, PP-118 MB Din, PP-123 Sialkot, PP-142 Lahore, PP-150 Lahore, PP-161 Lahore, PP-193 Okara, PP-210 Lodhran, PP-217 Khanewal, PP-243 DG Khan,
PP-247 Rajanpur, PP-254 Muzafargarh, PP-289 RY Khan, PP-292 RY Khan, PS-12 Shikarpur, PS-64 Mirpurkhas, PS-95 Karachi, PS-103 Karachi, PK-23 Mardan, PK-27 Mardan, PK-42 Hangu, PK-70 Bannu, PB-29 Naseerabad and PB-32 Jhal Magsi, and PB-44 Lasbela.
