RAWALPINDI - A divisional calligraphic competition in connection with Punjab Youth Festival was organised here at Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Tuesday.
Students from across Rawalpindi division participated in the competition. PML-N MNA Tahira Aurangzeb was the guest of honour while RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed was also present on the occasion.
Famous calligraphers of the country Khawaja Muhammad Hussain and Azeem Iqbal were appointed as judges.
According to their decision, Rehmat Ali from Gujar Khan secured first, Jamshed Iqbal from NCA got second and Waqas Iqbal from Government Post Graduate College for Boys remained third.
MNA Tahira Aurangzeb, while addressing, said that calligraphy was the integral part of Islamic culture which was sustained from centuries. She said that there were various calligraphic styles to scribe Holy Quran all over the world but calligraphers of Pakistan were matchless.
Tahira Aurangzeb further said that youth would get opportunity to come forward and prove their abilities due to initiative of Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shehbaz Sharif. She said that RAC is playing pivotal role to introduce new talent of the region.
Waqar Ahmed, Resident Director RAC, was of the view that young generation was our valuable asset and it was our duty to provoke them for positive activities.
He also announced that the position holders will get opportunity to compete for all Punjab. In second category of Punjab Youth Festival, a drama competition among colleges and universities will be held from 25 September 2012.At the end of the ceremony, Tahira Aurangzeb, MNA, awarded certificates and cash prizes among the position holders.
