One dead, dozen hurt as fire gutted shopping plaza in Rawalpindi

A huge fire gutted a major shopping plaza in Rawalpindi on Saturday, killing at least one person and injuring about a dozen others, police said. About a dozen more people were feared trapped in the smouldering debris of the Ghakhar Plaza, which partially collapsed 12 hours after the blaze erupted in the early morning, police officer Shahid Khan told a foreign news agency. "One man was burnt alive while a dozen others were injured, including two who jumped from the second floor to save themselves," he said. The cause of the massive blaze, which engulfed hundreds of shops, was not immediately known.
