FDE still headless

Islamabad - The Capital Administration and Development Division has failed to move a summary for the appointment of the head of Federal Directorate of Education, who looks after the matters of government education system in the federal capital, The Nation has learnt reliably.

The post of Director General FDE (BPS-20) has been lying vacant since December 10 after the retirement of Dr Shahnaz Riaz.

Sources told The Nation that the CADD could not move the summary to federal government for the appointment of new DG so far.

They said that it was the negligence of the federal ministry which overlooked the matter of hiring of the new DG and even it knew about the retirement date of the outgoing DG.

They said that most probably, the secretary office of any Division moves the summary of the appointment of head of any department with the retirement of outgoing head.

Sources said that the CADD is not considering the cases of senior most and eligible directors of the department for appointment of the new DG FDE. Around 482 education institutions, including schools and colleges, are directly working under the FDE, but there is nobody available to hear the issues of 16,500 employees and around 2,00,000 students due to government negligence, they added.

The CAAD ministry had also held the promotion case of a Director of FDE and did not forward it to the Central Selection Board for his promotion to grade 20.

When The Nation contacted Secretary CADD Nargis Ghiloon, she said the Division has sent the summary to federal government for appointment of the new DG FDE but the Establishment Division denied that it had received any summery in this connection.

Talking to the Nation on the condition of anonymity, a senior officer said that the Maryam Nawaz Sharif was also taking interest in appointment of a competent officer with the task to implement the Prime Minister’s Education Reforms programme in education system. He said that Federal Minister CADD Tariq Fazal Chaudhary also wanted his man on the top position but tight-lipped on the issue due to direct inference of Maryam Nawaz.

He said the incumbent government had claimed to settle down the issues of teachers but it did not consider regularisation cases of daily wages teachers so far.

Earlier, Maryam Nawaz took responsibility to bring improvement in the education system of federal capital and in this regard she visited the different schools along with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

She also tasked Tariq Fazal Chaudhary to resolve the issues and remove hurdles in betterment of education system.
