SC seeks list of contractual police officials

Supreme Court Thursday has sought the list of contractual police officials during the hearing the suo moto notice of Hajj corruption scandal. The Chief Justice blamed lack of command for the worsening law and order situation in Karachi. Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry maintained that only in January 75 persons have been killed in Karachi, adding that even the IG Police Sindh and DG FIA are contractual employees, a private TV reported. Secretary religious affairs told the 6-member bench hearing the case that around 18,000 branches of 6 banks are giving out Rs700 each to 26,000 pilgrims. Around 7,622 pilgrims have been returned the money, while the others would be given till January 25, the secretary apprised the SC. Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq told the court that DG FIA has been removed from the probe into the scam and now Javed Bukhari replaced him. The Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry observed that action should be taken against DG FIA Waseem Ahmed who spoiled the case probe. Javed Bukhari would report to Waseem Ahmed than how would he investigate the case honestly, Iftikhar Chaudhry wondered, adding that Only time is seem to be wasted in the case; someone is being saved, the CJ remarked. Justice Javed Iqbal observed that the investigation so far made would help the accused get free from trial court within 4 days. The apex court sought list of all the police officials hired on contracts from the interior ministry and deferred the case till January 27.
