Computerized balloting for Hajj under govt scheme on Aug 6

As the number of applications for Hajj under government scheme has surpassed the reserved quota, the computerized balloting for selection of 80,000 intending pilgrims will be held here on August 6. The applications under the government schemes have exceeded to 100,000 mark so that the balloting will be held to select 80,000 intending pilgrims, official sources in the Ministry of Religious Affairs said on Monday. He said that applicants declared successful after the balloting would have to submit their Machine Readable Passport within five-day of the Hajj draw in their respective banks. Applicants who remained unsuccessful for consecutive two previous years would be declared successful this year without balloting, he added. Similarly, he said unsuccessful applicants of this year would be declared successful in the next year, if they do not withdraw Hajj dues deposited by them. According to the new Hajj policy, as many as 160,000 intending pilgrims will perform forthcoming Hajj under government and private schemes. The Ministry of Religious Affairs will send 80,000 intending pilgrims for Hajj while remaining will be sent through Hajj Group Organizers (HGOs). As per directions of Saudi authorities, no new induction of Hajj Group Organizers (HGOs) will be undertaken for Hajj 2009. The Hajj Group Operators having good track record consistently for five years, shall be eligible for permanent registration with the Ministry subject to fulfillment of criteria, laid down for existing HGOs. The bank guarantee will be replaced with the cash guarantee, to be refunded after four months of the end of the Hajj season. For transparency, to bring right people at the right slot and to discourage the companies to get quota on the basis of untoward pressure, categorization of Hajj Group Operators will be introduced. The first Hajj flight is scheduled to take off on October 22 where as the last Hajj flight will depart on November 23. A total of 146,547 intending pilgrims will be airlifted by the PIA where as Saudi Airlines has also agreed to ferry 13,100 pilgrims from Pakistan. About 131,647 pilgrims would land at King Abdul Aziz International Air Port, Jeddah where as many as 28,000 pilgrims would enter the Kingdom through Prince Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz Air Port, Madinah Munawwarah.
