ISLAMABAD - The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Saturday sealed three bakeries in posh sectors of Islamabad for not meeting hygiene standards, besides serving more than hundred notices on retailers and owners of food outlets.
The enforcement squad of the CDA after discouraging use of residential houses for commercial activities, on Saturday took on those involved in adulteration of food items or selling expired commodities to consumers. Directorate of Health Services (DHS) during previous week issued 103 notices and 36 challans to the violators of hygiene sections of PPF Ordinance 1960. Two bakeries at G-10 Markaz, one bakery in Sector I-8/4 market and another bakeshop at I-8/3 were sealed.
The raiding team seized 10 litres of expired soft drinks, seven kilograms rotten mangoes, seven dozens rotten bananas, three kilograms rotten lemon, three kilograms expired mayonnaise, four dozens packs of gutka and three (03) dozens non-branded expired snacks.
The action was taken by two specially formed Directorate of Health Services teams each headed by a food inspector working under supervision of health officer. Performance of the teams is being examined on daily basis, a statement issued here said. Member Administration CDA Amir Ali Ahmed has directed Directorate of Health Services to continue operation against substandard fruit and vegetables sellers in the city to make sure the supply of hygienic foodstuff for the masses during monsoon season. As per principals of public health and relevant rules, action should be taken against sellers of substandard, unhygienic and expired food stuff, the handout said. Director Public Relations CDA Asim Khichi said the drive against adulterators would continue during the holy month of fasting till the operation reached its logical end adding that hundreds of violators had been booked in this regard during the month. "We will deal hard with all those who pollute the food items or sell expired commodities to consumers. The drive against all shopkeepers violating basic hygiene standards will continue," he added.
