Islamabad- Thirty-eight percent of Pakistanis believe the wage of an unskilled laborer in their vicinity is between Rs. 301 to Rs. 400 per day, according to a Gillani Research Foundation Survey.

A nation-wide representative sample of adult individuals across the four provinces was collected to address the following question: “In your opinion, what is the salary of an unskilled laborer in your vicinity?” The response revealed the majority leaning towards the average to high range of Rs. 300-400. For the remaining respondents, 25 percent said between Rs. 201 and Rs. 300; around 12 percent supported a range up to Rs. 200 whereas 13 percent claimed the wage fell in a range between Rs. 401 to Rs. 500. Interestingly enough, the final 12 percent respondents believed it to be greater than Rs. 500.

The study was conducted by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The sample constituted 2596 men in the rural and urban areas of the nation’s four provinces; it was collected during May with 95 percent confidence level.
