LAKKI MARWAT An Assistant Sub Inspector and four police cops were arrested on Friday for allegedly torturing a contractor during a routine checking near Malang Adda on Indus Highway. A police party of Ghaznikhel police station led by ASI Sanaullah stopped a government contractor Ihsanullah, who was on way to Lakki Marwat from Bannu in his motorcar and demanded Rs 1,000 from him, sources said. They said that the contractor gave them Rs 500 but the cops insisted for Rs 1,000 so that each of them could get Rs 200. Police personnel got infuriated and allegedly tortured Ihsanullah when he refused to fulfill their illegal demand of paying Rs 1,000 to them, sources further said. They said that people gathered on the spot and rescued the contractor who later informed local police and requested action against the responsible cops. District Police Officer Muhammad Ayub immediately rushed to the spot and ordered arrest and registration of case against the cops involved in the inhuman practice, sources maintained. When contacted DSP Lakki Syed Liaqat Shah said that a 'marasla had been sent/dispatched to Ghaznikhel police station for registration of FIR against ASI Sanaullah, head constable Younas Khan and constables Fakhre Alam, Ismail and Saboor. He said that all the cops involved in torturing the contractor Ihsanullah were arrested and handed over to the officials of investigation branch of Ghaznikhel police station. Meanwhile, DPO Muhammad Ayub told journalists in his office that it was the prime duty of police force to protect the lives and property as well grace and sanctity of people. He warned that the department would initiate strict action against the police cops involved in torturing citizens or meting out inhuman behaviour with them.
