Islamabad - Christian community has sought help of Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf to safeguard their worship places.
The help was sought in a meeting of a 5-member delegation of the United Council of Churches Islamabad with the federal minister following the incident of Youhana Abad. Bishop Khalid requested the minister for taking effective measures to safeguard all the Churches to avoid incidents like Shanti Nagar, Gojra, Joseph Colony, Kot Radha Kishen and Korian in future.
The minister assured the delegation to protect their worship places, saying the government was already fulfilling its responsibility to protect minority rights and working for dissemination of peace in the country.
He called for evolving consensus on promoting forbearance in the society as tolerance is the key for ensuring peace. He said Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan ensures equal rights to the minorities and government is bound to fulfill its constitutional responsibility.
He said the government is taking maximum measures to protect the rights of minorities. All possible steps were being taken to safeguard the sacred places of minorities across the country as well.
