The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has expressed sorrow and grief on the murder of Dr. Muhammad Shakil Auj, Dean, Faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Karachi.
In a condolence message to the University of Karachi and the bereaved family, the Chairman HEC and employees have expressed sorrow on the murder of Dr. Shakil Auj.
Praising his services to education, the statement said that Dr. Auj was the first to receive Doctor of Letters (D. Litt) in Islamic Studies.
He was also awarded Tamgha-i-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan recently for his contributions to the field of education.
A member of various committees of HEC, Dr. Shakil Auj earned his Doctorate in Islamic Studies in 2000 and the title of thesis was “Comparative Study of Eight Selected Urdu Translations of Holy Quran.” His research Interests was Quranic Translations and Commentaries, Hadith, Fiqh and Seerat-Un-Nabvi. He was the author of 15 books and 77 research papers on various topics. He was a director of Seerat Chair and Editor of two research journals. He has produced nine PhDs.
