ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Saturday came down hard on the federal government as well as Secretary Interior Shahid Ullah Khan for not inviting the top bureaucracy of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government in the law and order meeting of provinces held at the Ministry of Interior.
Interior Secretary Shahid Ullah Khan Saturday chaired a security meeting at the Ministry of Interior to review the overall security situation of the country after the deadly terrorist attack on Army Public School Peshawar on December 16 and after the security threats arising out the decision of the government to end moratorium on executions of those condemned prisoners who were convicted in terrorism related cases. The Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs), IGPs (Prisons) and chief/home secretaries of all the provinces participated in the meeting except that of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Central Information Secretary PTI Dr Shireen Mazari in a statement felt sorry for not inviting IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, IGP (prisons) KP and Chief Secretary KP in the security meeting. She said, “KP was the province that was worst hit by terrorism.” “It is surprising not to invite IGP, IGP (Prisons) and chief secretary KP in the meeting chaired by secretary interior,” she said, adding that the PTI was cooperating with the government at all levels to end the menace of terrorism in the country and to bring peace there. The masses of KP have given very much sacrifices against terrorism, she also said.According to an official of the Ministry of Interior, the meeting discussed in detail to tighten the security of all those jails in the country where condemned prisoners convicted in terrorism cases had been kept. The federal govt had already instructed the provinces to beef up the security of all jails in the country. It was decided in the meeting that security of education institutions in the provinces and the federal government, especially those being run by military would be enhanced and special instructions should be issued in this regard.
The meeting also discussed that executions of prisoners after the end of moratorium would be expedited on fats track as it was the policy of the federal government now.
