Rawalpindi - The incidents of house robberies and dacoities by unknown armed intruders have risen in recent days in the residential areas of Gujar Khan Cirlce while police are not taking action to arrest the culprits.
In just last 30 days, armed gang of robbers had struck at 10 houses in Jatli and Doltala and plundered cash, mobile phones, gold jewelry, electronic appliances and other valuables besides looting many others in Gujar Khan and Mandra localities.
The residents of the circle, who are seemingly under alleged control of gangsters and intruders with no police action, are concerned with the prevailing insecurity due to house robberies and other criminal incidents.
Residents complained about the Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar Circle and DSP Gujar Khan Circle’s apathy. Police said that robbers looted only 53 tolas of gold from two houses in Jalti and special operations are on to investigate rise in house robberies after filing cases. The residents started guarding their houses during night with riffles and pistols while sitting on rooftops of their houses and in shops.
According to details, the house robberies in Gujar Khan Circle have risen drastically with residents showing concerns about police performance.
They said that the incidents of street crimes, mobile snatching and house robberies were major concern for the residents.
The residents have complained that the muggers and armed gangs of robbers are roaming freely in the circle and looting the people while the police are unable to keep a check. They said that load shedding was the main reason behind the increase in street crimes and robberies.
A resident of Jatli Chaudhry Arif, while talking to The Nation, said that unknown robbers committed robbery in his house and plundered gold, cash and other valuables some 15 days ago. He said that he lodged complaint with Police Station Jatli but no action was taken so far against the unknown robbers.
Another local Master Younis told that armed muggers entered his house and made off with valuables. “I went to police station and tabled an application before police. My case was registered but robbers were not traced,” he said. Raja Ahsan of Mandra told The Nation that crime rate was also up in the areas of Mandra Police Station. He said that several locals were deprived of cash, wallets and mobile phones by unknown robbers but police had not entertained the victims. Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Jatli Qasim, however, when contacted, denied that robbers had committed robberies in ten places.
Instead, he said, police reported incidents of two house robberies in which unknown robbers stolen a total of 53 tolas of gold from Mohala Siddiqabad and within the limits of Police Chowky Doltala. He said that special teams of police have been constituted which were working round- the-clock to trace out the muggers. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gujar Khan Zaman Raza neither picked up call of this scribe nor replied to the SMS to take his version on the issue.
