ISLAMABAD - The lawmakers in National Assembly on Friday offered Fateha for the departed soul of MQM’s lawmaker Tahira Asif and strongly demanded a thorough probe into the incident and arrest of the culprit.
The proceeding of the house, following the parliamentary tradition, adjourned soon after offering Fateha and remarks of the legislators about the deceased lawmaker. Around over 100 lawmakers from treasury and opposition present in the house expressed grief and sorrow over the death of the MQM legislator.
MQM’s senior lawmaker Shikeh Salahuddin demanded of the government to arrest the culprits in three days. “MQM has decided 3-day mourning on the killing of their female lawmaker,” he added.
Taking the floor, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah demanded of the Punjab government to arrest the culprits. Shah also prayed for the departed soul.
Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanvir Hussain said the Punjab government would make all-out efforts to arrest the culprits. He also strongly condemned the incident and expressed grief and sorrow. PkMAP chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai said that there was a need to ascertain why such kinds of the incidents are occurring. “The incumbent government should probe into the incident thoroughly,” he said, adding that there has been insecurity in the country since Afghan war and the government should take proper steps to control it.
Achakzai also asked the president, prime minister and political leadership to work jointly for the solution of the problem. About Tahirul Qadri, Achakzai said if he had any objection over newly formed commission to investigate the Lahore incident then he should request the prime minister to make another.
PTI’s lawmaker Shah Mehmood Qureshi also demanded the arrest of the culprits. AML President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed termed it a national tragedy. He demanded of the house to adopt a resolution to strongly condemn the incident. Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) senior lawmaker Tariq Ullah, on his turn, also strongly condemned the murder of MQM’s lawmaker.
