PPP moves NA over Sartaj remarks on militants

ISLAMABAD - PPP is set to lock horns with PML-N over Sartaj Aziz’s recent statement about Taliban and terrorism, arguing this comment seems an effort to spoil the ongoing ‘Zarb-e-Azab’ operation being carried out against militants in North Waziristan.
PPP lawmakers submitted a call-attention notice in the National Assembly (NA) secretariat addressing Minister for Defence to clarify the government’s position on this irresponsible statement.
Advisor to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has recently commented “Pakistan should not target militants who do not directly threaten the country’s security”.
The legislators including Shazia Mari, Begum Husnain, Ayaz Soomro, Makhdoom Mustafa Shah & Dr. Fahmida Mirza have submitted the call attention notice.
“This is a highly disappointing and perturbing statement from responsible persons, which reflect the government’s seriousness on important matters,” said Shazia Marri while talking to The Nation on Thursday. She was of the view that this statement is a clear negation of Pakistan’s policy against terrorism.
“This irresponsible statement give world an opportunity to point finger at Pakistan and doubt the credibility of the efforts to uproot terrorists and terrorism from the country,” said the PPP MNA.
