Islamabad - San Jose State University, California, and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) held a two-day joint internship-workshop here at the AIOU’s main campus to promote online education in the field of computer science.Inaugurating the workshop, AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that the university would enhance its international collaboration to expose its students to the latest advancement in the telecom and IT sector. Such events are parts of the ongoing efforts to provide internship to their students through concept of telecommuting model, recently launched in Pakistan, he added. Ten students from five regions Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, DG Khan and Umerkot attended the workshop.Dr Siddiqui said that the University has evolved a comprehensive academic plan to promote online educational under the distance learning system. Focus has also been laid on research-based activities to update the students with new knowledge in their respective discipline, he added. During the two day workshop, students were given lectures from the Faculty of Department of Computer Science and the industry experts including Tauseef Zaman and Zubair Ahmed Chatta. They apprised the interns about current market trends and motivated them to work hard and understand the digital-based mechanism of business management.Project Director Mark Adams also delivered lecture via video conferencing from San Jose State University and briefed them on new concept of internship through telecommuting in the learning processs.Dr Shahid Siddiqui appreciated this new idea of Internship through telecommuting model. He underlined the need of moving the students towards this model to meet the global standards. This, he said could enable a student to go through the new development in the field of Information and Communication Technology, while sitting at their home and by doing so, they will also be able to complete academic tasks through online Learning Management System..Earlier, Prof Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi, Dr Moiz-Ud-Din Ahmed and Atif Solangi highlighted the University’s efforts of promoting science education in the country.Meanwhle, Pakistan France Friendship Society has organised a public gathering in the federal capital to condemn Paris terrorist attacks and show the solidarity with the families of the victims.The gathering demonstrated that Pakistan stands united with France and the world to fight against the terrorists and terrorism. People from all walks of life have participated and paid their respect to the victims by lightning the candles and offering the followers here, said a statement by the president of the Society. The people have expressed their support for France and its people during these difficult times where over 120 people were killed in a bomb and gun attack last week. Public representatives, including members of upper house of the parliament, Senator Sitara Ayaz, and Senator Taj Haider were also present at the occasion. Visitors have the opportunity to express their feelings by signing the reference book.
