2 gangs of car thieves busted in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD - Islamabad capital territory police on Sunday busted two gangs involved in snatching of cabs, arrested four criminals and recovered two vehicles from their custody.
According to details, Mazhar Ashfaq, driver of a taxi (RIF-3270) reported to the city police that two persons had hired his taxi from Khanna Bridge for Alipur. When he reached near Alipur, two accused intercepted him and snatched the vehicle on gunpoint. The Karal police registered the case.
Meanwhile, Inspector Khalid Mahmood Awan, SI Badar Munir immediately traced out one accused namely Babar Shahzad and recovered the snatched vehicle. A team has been constituted for the arrest of other co-accused.
In another incident, three unknown accused hired a cab from Pirwadhai and snatched from its driver Naqeeb ur Rehman at gun point in the jurisdiction of Koral area.
The driver immediately informed the police following which a team of Koral police station started efforts to trace the snatchers. The area was cordoned off and special patrolling helped the police to arrest three car snatchers. The police also recovered the snatched car (LOD-4465) from these nabbed persons whose names were identified as Naveed Khan, Azmat and Imran Murtaza.
The Koral Police also arrested two dacoits namely Yasir Mahmood s/o Muhammad Alam, Sajid Mahmood s/o Muhammamd Banaras involved in case FIR No.324 dated U/S 392-PPC, PS Koral and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 1,60,000/-. Further investigation is underway.
According to a spokesperson of ICT police, physical remand of the accused has been obtained from concerned court of law for further investigation.
Similarly, one gang comprising two accused was also arrested and recovered gold ornaments from their possession, a police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the police impounded around three vehicles and one motorbike having bogus number plates during the verification process in last two days.
These vehicles included IDC-1669, PD-638, LS-155 and one motorbike (HN-274).
According to details, the city police have created a customized database with three components that include registration data of vehicles, data of stolen vehicles and crime record of proclaimed offenders, court absconders, military deserters, challaned and convicted persons.
In order to check record of any vehicle or suspect, the data can be accessed by picket in-charges and patrol officers through the intelligent mobile verification system.
