The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued final list of candidates of the Senate elections, which will be held on March 4. Seven contestants for general seats of the Senate in the NWFP were elected unopposed on Saturday after three candidates withdrew their nomination papers, while the fourth's nomination papers were rejected by the chief election commissioner. The NWFP Election Commission notified that Sardar Ali Khan, Gulzar Ahmad Khan and Waqar Ahmad Khan of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Haji Muhammad Adeel, Zahid Khan and Abdul Nabi Bangash of the Awami National Party (ANP) and Haji Ghulam Ali of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) had returned successful. Out of the total of 11 seats for the NWFP, election will now be held on four reserved seats " two each for women and technocrats. Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, a PPP candidate for the Senate, returned uncontested against a general seat from the federal capital as two other candidates Malik Shujaur Rehman of PML-N and Lt Col (R) Zahid Ali Khan withdrew their nomination papers. Meanwhile, five candidates from Balochistan have so far withdrawn their nomination papers for the forthcoming Senate elections. According to the EC sources, a total of 24 candidates have filed nomination papers against general seats, out of them one candidate, Manzoor Ahmed Mengal of JUI-F withdrew his candidature.
