Mystery shrouds kidnapping, release of ex-serviceman

rawalpindi - Mystery shrouds the brief kidnapping of a retired major of Pakistan Army by four armed people and his release after paying Rs 1 million ransom in the area of police station Ratta Amral.
Police registered a case on the complaint of the victim against unknown accused and started investigation. However, the applicant claimed that police are not cooperating with him and have lodged a dacoity case instead of kidnapping for ransom case.
However, top police boss expressed speculations over the circumstances of the case saying it seems the victim was twisting the facts. According to contents of the first information report (FIR), Major (Retd) Shakeel, a resident of Bahria Town who is also associated with property business, told police that he along with his driver was returning home in his double cabin vehicle when four unknown gunmen intercepted them near Railway Crossing at Westridge. “One of the gunmen pushed the driver out and threw him on the back seat, and occupied the driving seat while the other three persons made us hostage at gunpoint and sped away towards Chakra,” the applicant claimed. He mentioned that a man also joined the four kidnappers on the way to Chakra and they later demanded ransom for our safe release. He said that the kidnappers were paid Rs 1 million by his brother at Iqbal Mosque at Chakra. Later, the kidnappers forced his brother to drop them at Pirwadhai Mor in his car. He demanded police to take legal action against the kidnappers. Talking to The Nation, the victim accused police of misbehaving with him and filing dacoity case instead of kidnapping for ransom case.
City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, when contacted, expressed his wonder over the claims of the applicant saying, “I have never seen or handled such a dubious case ever in my life.” He said how it is possible for kidnappers to roam on roads in cantonment area while holding him at gunpoint and receiving Rs 1 million ransom that too in four hours. Nonetheless, the things would become clear after a thorough investigation being launched by police, he said.
