IDPs to get relief allowance in cash: PM

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has directed that internally displaced persons (IDPs) should be given relief allowance in cash in order to facilitate them and the same should be made at the checkpoints from where these people would be entering the settled areas.
The decision to do away with the payments through the smart cards for relief transfers was dropped in a high-level meeting held here at Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday, keeping in view of the cumbersome and delayed procedure involved in transfer of aid through this mode.
The PM further directed that cash relief should be given to the families coming from North Waziristan at the checkpoints when there registration is being carried out. A committee of representatives of Pakistan Army, NDMA, PDMA and SAFRON will oversee the process, he directed. In addition Pakistan Army will provide one-month ration to the families.
The PM directed the PM Office staff to coordinate with all institutions to ensure relief to IDPs.
Meanwhile in a brief chat with media here at Parliament House, Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt Gen (Retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch said the Pakistan Army has assured full support to IDPs and the GHQ has appointed a serving major general ranked army officer to coordinate ongoing relief operation for the people of North Waziristan Agency.
The federal minister said he had visited General Headquarters Rawalpindi to discuss ways and means to facilitate internally displaced persons of NWA due to ongoing military operation Zarb-E-Azb in the area and the army has been keen to extend cooperation to the government in its efforts to provide maximum relief to the IDPs.
Baloch said the government has started giving away Rs 15,000 cash money to IDPs as first tranche of relief package. He said the government, in collaboration with World Food Programme, has started distributing ration packets and the 25 trucks carrying ration goods have arrived in IDP camps established by the government.
Around 2,000 transport vehicles were busy evacuating peaceful citizens of the NWA to safer places and IDP camp, the minister added.
Qadri conspiring against NWA
operation: Rashid: Senator Pervaiz Rashid, federal minister for information and broadcasting, has said Allama Tahir-ul-Qadri knows that the government is leading a war against terrorists and Pak Army is engaged in Zarb-e-Azb but he wants to create an environment conducive for the terrorists.
In a statement on Saturday, Rashid said Qadri by doing this wants to disunite the nation and shift the focus from Zarb-e-Azb to his politics of agitation. The minister appealed to political forces to abandon their political agenda till completion of military operation.
He said Pakistan’s foreign reserves have registered record increase, inflation rate has fallen to a single digit and GDP growth crossed four per cent mark. The minister said that there is no division among the national institutions and they are on the same page on Zarb-e-Azb operation in North Waziristan, foreign policy and economic revival. He said the armed forces are fighting to secure Pakistan’s future and bring peace to the country.
He advised the elements creating hurdles in efforts of the government to make Pakistan a peaceful and prosperous nation to show patience and wait for the next general elections. He said that the PML-N-led government has set an example by seeking resignation of Punjab law minister over the Lahore incident. He said judicial commission is investigating the incident and if anybody has any objection, he should approach the Supreme Court.
