Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the judiciary had been under pressure thereby affecting its march to attain necessary freedom and independence to administer justice freely, fairly and impartially as an independent judiciary guarantees the stability of political and constitutional system in vogue in the country. Addressing the full court reference in the honor of Justice Rehman Hussain Jaffery on the occasion of his retirement, CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that the democratic style of government is in the interest of all people including future generations and they would continue to support the democracy and rule of law in the country. He further said that every person should perform his or her responsibility and practice the rules of merit and transparency for rule of the law in the country. The Chief Justice stated that the judiciary not alone but all three pillars of state are responsible to ensure the provision of justice to the masses. He further said that according to international corruption report, the corruption also exists in the judiciary, which is earning bad fame for the institution. The old system of Katchery is based of corruption as people would have to give bribes for legal works as well, he added. He maintained that the accountability is necessary for eradicating corruption and bribes from the judicial system judiciary is putting its best efforts to make the system clean. Chief Justice also praised the role of Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery saying that he proved his legal acumen and maintained independence and impartiality. Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery also praised the participants and said that his affiliation with superior judiciary is great honor for him. President, Supreme Court Bar Association, Asma Jahangir said that the seven dysfunctional judges should also be allowed to perform their services and should take decision at earliest in this regard. She said that the service tenure of judges of superior courts judges has been ensured; however this rule was not applied on those seven judges. She also praised the role of judiciary for sending notices to secret department in the case of missing persons. Attorney General, Molvi Anwarul Haq said that the mutual consensus between bar and bench is necessary. He also praised the judicial services of Justice Rehman Hussain Jaffery.
