ISLAMABAD - Two senior staffers of the daily Nawa-i-Waqt Islamabad were looted at gunpoint by a group of people near Shakarparian on Monday night when they were returning back after visiting Lok Virsa Festival.
The dacoits who were five in number took away a total of Rs 20,000 cash and two mobile phone sets from senior official in accounts department Liaquat Ali and in-charge store Mohammad Amin at gunpoint at around 10:30pm. Police registered a case against unknown dacoits and started efforts to track down the culprits.
The staffers of Daily Nawa-I-Waqt informed that they were on their way back to their residence in G-6 after visiting Lok Virsa Festival. When they reached near the National Monument, some five persons, whose faces could not be seen due to pitch darkness in the area owning to out of order streetlights, stopped them at gunpoint. They said that no security personnel were deputed in the area for the safety of the visitors.
It is pertinent to mention here that a police picket was near to the place where these two staffers were looted in the federal capital, exposing the tall claims of the authorities of making Islamabad a safe city.
