ISLAMABAD - The government is going to lift ban on new arms licences from 30th June 2014, Secretary Interior Imtiaz Tajwar informed the public accounts committee (PAC) here on Tuesday.
The Secretary said that the ministry is doing verification of arms licences while in past arms licences were issued without proper verifications.
He inform the committee, which met here on Tuesday, that out of 71,723 arms licences which were issued in the past, 39,470 were non-prohibited while 21,000 were prohibited bore licences.
He further told the committee that 68,000 licence cards have been attested while 35000 cards are under the process of attestation.
PAC showed its serious concern over the non-availability of record and loss of Rs 550 millions to national exchequer in this regard. The Committee instructed the officials of interior ministry to probe the matter within two months and submit the detailed report, fix the responsibility and recover the amount by the concerned officers.
The audit officials disclosed that Baluchistan Constabulary purchased a special plane worth Rs 138.5 million while PC-1 was made in Rs 50 million.
Responding to the audit objection, interior ministry officials admitted that the plane was bought against the violation of rules but to settle the issue it is necessary to listen to the point of view of Baluchistan government.
The committee showed its serious concern that the matter is serious and it would be sent to NAB to take action against the responsible persons.
