NICL corruption case: Corruption wont be tolerated: CJ

Chief Justice Iftilhar Muhammad Chaudhary, during the hearing of National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scandal case, remarked that the culture of not bringing the influential persons to justice should be ended, a private TV reported on Monday. Rejecting the Federal Investigation Agencys (FIA) report on NICL case, the Supreme Court directed the authorities on Monday to arrest culprits behind the massive corruption in National Insurance Company Limited (NICL). The apex court also summoned the interior secretary in this regard. A three-member bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary heard the suo-moto case the alleged corruption of Rs. 18 billion in NICL. During the course of the hearing, the Deputy Director FIA told the court the NICL beard the loss of Rs. 5 billion. The CJ remarked that FIA is trying to save the influential people. The issue is of more than Rs. 18 billion and it, therefore, can not be ignored, added CJ. The court also rejected the audit report of the organization and expressed its anger on changing the officers assigned the task of investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, secretary commerce told the SECP controls NICL affairs since 2000. The court suspended the 4-member team of FIA and summoned the interior secretary to present before the bench.
