PM cannot write letter to Swiss court, SC told

The federation on Tuesday submitted its reply to the Supreme Court in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) implementation case, in which it stated that Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf cannot write a letter to Swiss authorities. In rejoinder, submitted by the Attorney General, the federal government further said that the PM is bound to do everything with consent of the cabinet adding that his cabinet has not decided yet to write letter against the president. Former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has already been held in contempt and subsequently disqualified by the Supreme Court of Pakistan for not complying with its orders. PM Ashraf had been given a deadline to explain his position regarding writing a letter to Swiss authorities to re-open graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. The premier mentioned that option 2 of the apex court, regarding contempt proceeding against the prime minister, was not available after the new contempt law. The federation also appealed the apex court to revise it’s verdict on July 12. The Supreme Court will carry out its proceedings on July 25.
