Islamabad - The protesting employees of Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) have cautioned the management to pay heed to their longstanding issues or else they will shut down the campus from Monday.
The employees, who have been protesting since Thursday last over various issues against the administration, said they would lock the campus and would not let university transport run.
Vice-Chancellor QAU Javed Ashraf sought police help when protesting employees reached outside his office. The protest was organised by Employees Welfare Association (EWA). In the morning over 150 employees reached the administration block of the university and chanted slogans against the VC.
Their demands include leave-encashment, payments for overtime, marriage allowance, and meeting of the departmental promotion committee being delayed for long.
The protesting employees alleged that a private security company hired by the university is itself involved in robberies and crimes at the campus.
“The hired security company employees have been found involved in recent robberies at the university. Their background is suspicious and it is not sure whether or not they have received security training,” alleged an employee Saleem.
The employees demanded that retired employees or children of retired employees be appointed as security guards instead of hiring a private company.
They also demanded extra payments for extra work they do after their duty timings like teaching staff is entitled to extra payments.
Many daily wagers were also among the protesters who have been working for the past few years and now they want to be regularised. Police reached the spot and urged staffers to remain calm but they refused to budge. The employees protested for two hours and dispersed peacefully. They vowed to hold protest on Wednesday (today) too.
EWA President Nazar Shah said they would protest peacefully till Friday and from Monday they would go on complete strike if their demands remained unheeded.
