ISLAMABAD - Special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad Friday summoned former military ruler Pervez Musharraf to appear before the court on June 13 in the judges’ detention case. ATC Judge Atiq-ur-Rehman, who conducted the hearing, directed Musharraf to appear before the court on the next date of hearing while giving him exemption for one day in the case.
Musharraf’s counsel appeared before the court on behalf of the former president and submitted his client’s medical report, seeking exemption for his client from appearing before the court. He contended that Musharraf was suffering from pain in backbone and doctors have forbidden him to travel due to which he could appear before the court. He argued that charges had been framed against his client and, therefore, he should be exempted from appearance before the court.
During the hearing, Musharraf’s guarantor Rashid Qureshi was also present in the court. However, Public Prosecutor Aamir Nadeem Tabish opposed the exemption, saying that the disease was not much serious.
After hearing the arguments, the ATC judge granted Musharraf exemption for one day and warned of strict action against Musharraf’s guarantors in case he failed to show up in the next hearing of the case.
Meanwhile, Musharraf’s counsel also filed an application seeking permanent exemption for his client and both the parties will argue in this connection on the next hearing.
Later, the court deferred the hearing of the case till June 13 for further proceedings.
