Islamabad - The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to illuminate the roads of the federal capital with light emitting diodes (LEDs).
Initially, 2,000 lights would be installed at major avenues of the city. This was decided during a meeting held at CDA headquarters yesterday. The meeting was chaired by Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal while Member Administration and Estate, Amer Ali Ahmed, Member Engineering Shahid Sohail, director general electrical and maintenance and officers of the relevant formations were also present during the meeting.
The chairman CDA was briefed that LED technology is not only cost-effective but will also help light the city more aesthetically. The meeting was further informed that LED lights are more durable and long-lasting as compared to conventional streetlights. He was further informed that estimates in this regard are being prepared. The meeting was informed that replaced conventional lights would be converted into retrofitted LEDs and would be later installed in other areas of the city as per requirement. The chairman CDA said the authority has taken concrete steps to beautify the capital and all the facilities being provided will be up-graded on modern lines.
