IHC restores notification of giving STMU, SMC schedule ‘1’

Islamabad - Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday restored the notification regarding inclusion of Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU) and Shifa Medical College (SMC) in schedule ‘1’of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Athar Minallah also permitted the STMU to conduct the examination of students of Shifa Medical College from October 28. The court also decided to conduct day-to-day hearing of the petition and now it would resume the hearing in this matter today (Friday). The petitioners STMU and SMC moved the court through their counsel Raja Saim-ul-Haq Satti Advocate who contended before the court that the Act of STMU and SMC was approved by the Parliament. During the hearing, Secretary National Health Regulations and Services Sheikh Ayub informed the court that as per court directions, he had issued a notification of nine nominees of federal government in the PMDC.
The counsel for the petitioner informed that PMDC had constituted a team to evaluate the structure of the institution. The inquiry team had awarded 820 marks out of 850 to the petitioner but despite the fact the institution was not included in schedule ‘1’.
He continued the SMC is an allied institution of STMU and not awarding it the status of schedule ‘1’ is discriminatory.
After issuing above-mentioned orders, the court adjourned the matter till Friday (today) for further proceedings
