Karzai asked to pardon Pak journalist

ISLAMABAD - Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid Thursday said that the government was playing its due role for an early release of Pakistani journalist Faizullah Khan jailed in Afghanistan.
Addressing a joint press conference along with the wife of the detained journalist and PFUJ President Afzal Butt here, the minister appealed to Afghan President Hamid Karzai for the release of Faiz.
Pervaiz Rashid said Pakistanis respects judiciary and laws of Afghanistan and expressed the hope that the Afghan President would pardon the sentence of Faiz. Saying that Faizullah’s case was now at the stage of appeal, Pervaiz hoped that Faiz would spend Eid ul Fitr with his family in Karachi.  “If President Karzi uses his special power, Faizullah and his family would be saved from human tragedy,” the minister remarked. He also said that both Foreign Office and Information Ministry were coordinating and taking up this issue seriously and the Pakistan counsel general has met Faizullah in jail and lawyers have been hired for his defence.
Earlier the wife of Faizullah Khan appealed to the Afghan President to pardon her husband so that he can return home before Eid.
