Parties urged to ensure minorities protection

ISLAMABAD – President Hindu-Sikh Social Welfare Council Jag Mohan Kumar Arora Sunday urged the political parties to make pledge for minorities protection in their election manifestos.Arora, talking to APP here, said that the political parties should play a pro-active role in promoting religious harmony in the country.
Religious scholars, civil society and media should help promote inter-faith harmony, he said and added that Ulema in Friday sermons should focus on promoting religious tolerance. He said print media should publish articles on religious tolerance and interfaith harmony while anchorpersons should also play their role for the purpose.
He said that merely commemorating inter-faith harmony day might not ensure religious tolerance. The government should take concrete measures to avoid recurrence of Joseph Colony (Lahore) like incidents, he added. He said the speech of Quaid-i-Azam delivered on Aug 11, 1947 should be made part of the Constitution.
