Senate body on health meets

ISLAMABAD - The Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Health to look into the problems being faced by provincial coordinators dealing with Maternal New-born and Child Health (MNCH) programme met here on Tuesday. The meeting that held with Senator Muhammad Zahid Khan in the chair reviewed the situation regarding mother-child health and Hepatitis C prevalence in NWFP. The committee was informed that prevalence of Hepatitis C was on rise in NWFP and there was an urgent need to address the issue. The committee convener called upon the Federal Ministry of Health and Provincial Health Departments to resolve the problems being faced by the provincial Coordinators associated with the programme, particularly regarding their mobility/transportation, office, funding etc. so that they might be able to play a more dynamic and effective role in controlling the diseases. The Sub-Committee called for a detailed report to be presented in the next meeting scheduled for the first weak of December. Senator Farhat Abbas and senior officials of the Ministry of Health were also present on the occasion.
