Politicians struggling to curb violence against women: Ayaz

Islamabad - Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker National Assembly, has said that political forces are determined to make Pakistan a place where everyone has the same opportunities to participate in all walks of life with dignity and self-esteem.
In his message issued in connection with International Day against Elimination of Violence against Women falling on Nov. 25, the speaker National Assembly said that violence against women is now being considered as a human rights and a peace and security issue around the world, including Pakistan. “The progressive political and social forces in Pakistan have remained instrumental in curbing this evil during the past six decades of our independence,” he added. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that violence against women happens everywhere at home and at work and on streets during peacetime and in conflict. He said that present parliament is fully aware to that reality and was still working to curb this evil. The speaker said that the formation of Women Parliamentary Caucus was the joint effort by the women parliamentarians and they are committed to play a key role in putting together all different areas around a common agenda to ensure protection and access of rights for women.
“In order to eliminate violence against women, we need to engage men and youth as well as media in this struggle,” the speaker said.
