ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court has disqualified Samina Khawar Hayat, a Punjab Assembly member from Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, in a fake degree case.
The judgment reserved by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry-led three-judge bench on July 10 was issued on Thursday.
The court ruled Hayat had failed to prove her degree was genuine. It ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan to cancel her election victory notification.
Hayat, who was elected to a seat reserved for women, had submitted a BBA degree from Riphah International University, Islamabad. The degree, according to the election commission, was declared fake by the Higher Education Commission.
Her counsel then gave the commission a copy of a certificate stating she had completed her BBA from Preston Institute of Management Science and Technology, Karachi. But upon verification that degree also turned out to be forged.
