Islamabad - The civil society has started a campaign on social media for the reinstatement of suspended Senior Superintendent of Islamabad Police, Muhammad Ali Nekokara, who is reportedly on the verge of being removed from his job.
The campaign is all over internet and civil society and bloggers in individual capacity pay their tributes to the police officer.
“SSP Mohammad Ali Nekokara refused to use force against protesters. There are so many Gullu Butts in Punjab Police who have shown their cruelty just to save looted money of their masters. Every Pakistani like Mohammad Ali should come forward and stand with the nation,” says the official webpage of Imran Khan (Imrankhan.official).
There are more than 91,000 likes and more than 20,000 shares on this page alone. Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers and supporters have also posted similar comments.
Nekokara was suspended when he refused to use force against protestors of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) on August 30 on the verbal orders of his superiors.
Justice for peace is another online community which demands reinstatement of Nekokara.
Among articles in support of Nekokara by leading local civil society representatives, there are also some posts from human rights activists.
“So sad when a senior police official SSP MA Nekokara does the right and the rights respecting thing, we hang him out to dry,” said Ali Dayan, senior fellow USIP and former director of a human rights organization, in his post.
There is another page ‘Justice for Nekokara,’ which states that alumnus of top institutions like Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, London School of Economics, and Harvard Kennedy School USA, he is an honest and upright officer with an unblemished reputation in his 19 years of civil and police service.
There are some other pages, which suggest that if one-sided action would be taken against Nekokara, the morale of police would fall and it would encourage dishonest and non-professional elements in the force.
Interestingly, there is hardly any post against the officer; however, some raised their voice that PAT and PTI protestors were not peaceful.
