ISLAMABAD - The federal government on Monday appointed Akram Sheikh, senior advocate of Supreme Court, as special prosecutor to try former Army Chief General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf in high treason case before the special court.
The law ministry has issued notification regarding the appointment of Akram Sheikh as special prosecutor in the case.
The law ministry on November 18 sent a one-page letter to the Supreme Court requesting the CJP to propose the names of judges for special court. Justice Chaudhry instead of deciding the names himself asked the chief justices of all the high courts to nominate a judge of their respective court. The CJP on receiving the names from all the high courts sent them to the federal government to select three names out of these five names itself.
The Prime Minister out of five names on Tuesday nominated Justice Faisal Arab of the Sindh High Court, Justice Mohammad Yawar Ali Khan of the Lahore High Court and Justice Tahira Safdar of the Balochistan High Court for the special court.
