ISLAMABAD - As Pakistan People's Party (PPP) prepared to win back some support in the populous Punjab province, the party main leadership is still not on the same page regarding party's reorganisation plan to achieve the goal.
The major opposition party (PPP) in its reorganisation plan, which has been postponed till 30 November, is in a quandary for bringing back dissidents or inducting all fresh members in the party especially at Punjab level.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has almost made up his mind to induct fresh blood in its 'restructuring campaign' and also touch a few loyal workers of party to ascertain the reasons behind failure of party specially in general election 2013.
Whereas, PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is not in favour of inducting all young lot in the party and showing leniency towards party old guards.
"Although he in his recent 13 days visit of Punjab has not bothered to touch even a single dissident member, yet now he is prepared to listen to dissidents who are hoping to return to the party," background discussions and interactions with main party members left this impression.
Party sources said that PPP has also a bit delayed its revival plan in Punjab to sort differences between the father and the son on these matters. Most of the party's senior members are putting weight behind Zardari's proposal to keep blend of experience of new and old members.
Whereas, Bilawal is in his opinion only to focus only on young lot in the party at Punjab level to avoid in general elections.
Sources said that major party leadership in its upcoming reorganisation campaign might touch very few 'winning candidates' of Punjab which could be beneficial for the party in next elections. These former MNAs or MPAs had been in the party's fold but left it due to certain reasons.
When contacted, PPP Senator Farhatullah Babar said that reorganisation of party at different levels is under consideration. "PPP leadership is deliberating upon the revival plan," he said, adding that intra-party election plan is also being discussed in reorganisation plan. "A party's committee has also recently submitted report about KP," he informed.
On the other hand, sensing the major opposition party's plan to win back support of the people in Punjab the famous PPP's dissidents also launched new faction with the name of Pakistan People's Party Workers (PPP-W). "We have established a platform of genuine workers of the party with the aim to highlight actual ideology of the party," said PPP's dissident Safdar Abbasi and newly elected PPP-W Chairman.
Meanwhile, sources said that PPP is also set to hold a procession in Punjab after Muharram for its ongoing reorganisation campaign. "PTI's recent strategy to hold public gatherings in different cities apart from its sit-in in Islamabad has prompted PPP to follow the suit," they said.
PPP in its planned reorganisation campaign in Punjab is set to bring major changes in the party position as Qamar Zaman Kaira might be made the party chief in Punjab by replacing Manzor Wattoo.
The sources said that Bilawal in reorganisation move of the party will also focus on the main reason behind the failure of party in Punjab as the party did not win even a single seat in the province. He would make all-out efforts to overcome the follies that caused political loss to the party in 2013 general elections.
