SC seeks PM’s reply in NRO implementation case

The Supreme Court (SC) has sought reply from Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in NRO Implementation case and adjourned the proceedings till July 12. A three-member bench comprising Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, and Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh heard the case. The SC directed the Attorney General to consult with the prime minister about the case and inform the court on July 12. It also mentioned that the former prime minister was convicted in the same case and expressed the hope that the new PM would implement the verdict. On March 8, the court directed the ex-prime minister to write a letter to the Swiss authorities for reopening the graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, regardless of the advice, and submit a report on March 21. But he refused to do so and conveyed the court to take up this matter after the final decision on the contempt of court proceedings. Later, on June 19 the apex court declared Gilani as disqualified in the same case. The court also reviewed the matter of beyond the rule appointment of Adnan Khwaja as Chairman OGDCL and Ahmad Riaz Sheikh as Additional Director FIA by the former prime minister Gilani. Dr Basit, their counsel, argued that his clients have paid the price and pleaded that the bench should declare today the last day for the case. The apex court had adjourned the case on the request of Aitzaz Ahsan due to contempt of court case hearing against former PM Gilani.
