ISLAMABAD - The Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment in the Superior Courts Wednesday unanimously approved the name of Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, the senior most judge of the Peshawar High Court (PHC), as the next chief justice of PHC.
The committee approved the name of Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel aginst the anticipated vacancy of chief justice of Peshawar High Court.
A meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment was held in-camera at Parliament House here on Wednesday to discuss the recommendations made by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan in its meeting held on March 13 regarding appointment of chief justice of Peshawar High Court.
The committee, after detailed discussion, unanimously approved the name of Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel for the post of chief justice against the anticipated vacancy, which will occur on account of the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice, Justice Fasih-ul-Mulk, who is due to retire on 7th April, 2014.
The meeting was president over by Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk MNA and attended by Leader of the House in the Senate, Senator Raja Muhammad Zafar-ul-Haq besides Senator Farooq Hamid Naek and MNAs Syed Naveed Qamar and Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Secretary Senate Amjad Pervez Malik was also present in the meeting.
