Islamabad - Capital Development Authority (CDA) has planned different cultural and sports events particularly traditional sports competition for providing healthy entertainment to the residents of Islamabad and to highlight the diverse culture of the country through these events in the federal capital on the special directions of Chairman Maroof Afzal.
A two-day annual Tent Pegging competition was inaugurated at F-9 Park here on Thursday, member environment CDA, Syed Mustafain Kazmi was the chief guest at the occasion.
While sharing his views chief guest said that Pakistan is blessed with diverse culture and Capital Development Authority being custodian of the federal capital is committed to promote folk games and traditions by arranging traditional games competition in the city, he said that tent pegging is marvelous combination of power and expertise which has not only been appreciated by the residents of Islamabad but also by the foreigners and diplomats residing in Islamabad during the ongoing spring.
Earlier, Chairman CDA, Maroof Afzal has tasked the member administration and estate, Amer Ali Ahmed to pay special focus for arranging traditional sports and folk games to instill nationalism in the residents of Islamabad, while sharing his views Amer Ali Ahmed said that sports and culture directorate of Capital Development Authority has planned to organize different sports tournaments which include hockey, cricket, football and shooting ball, he added that in order to promote traditional games Capital Development Authority has planned to organize tent pegging, Kabaddi, tug of war and other such competitions to promote these games at national level.
He said that in addition to sports events, the Capital Development Authority has also planned to organize cultural shows, sufi nights, folk nights, artisans Mela and other entertainment programs to depict different segments of cultural heritage of the country.
Tent pegging competition being organized in collaboration with Pakistan Tent Pegging Federation concludes today (Friday) in which 80 renowned clubs and riders from all over the country are participating, event includes single, doubles and four men and team categories.
Different prizes will be distributed amongst the riders and teams on concluding ceremony.
A large number of people from the twin cities, diplomats and foreigners residing in the federal capital witnessed the event on the first day and hailed the professional skills of the riders.
