NAB records Ashraf’s statement

ISLAMABAD - The National Accountability Bureau on Friday recorded the statement of Information Technology Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in the RPPs case.The investigation questioned another six accused in the case while some RPP CEOs appeared before the team and handed over the pay orders and cheques worth Rs825 million - Rs600m pay orders and Rs225m post-paid cheques. Senior officials of Pepco, Wapda and PPIB and Genco MDs also went through the probe. Following the directives of Supreme Court, the bureau stepped up its probe in the case. The NAB will complete its reconciliation exercise in the week ahead where it would scrutinise the collected evidence and other relevant material. After this exercise, the accused required for further examination would be summoned.The NAB has completed its inquiry in a railways case relating with the purchase of spare parts for 69 Chinese locomotives and the findings along-with its recommendations would be placed before the next Executive Board Meeting for decision where this inquiry would be converted into investigation. The NAB’ inquiry unearthed that 85 per cent of total purchased spare parts in the case are lying unutilised. In another railway inquiry relating with Royal Palm Golf Club, the NAB has secured Rs7-8b by facilitating the parties to revisit the lease agreement in phase-I while in phase-II where an international level hotel has to be built by the party to the agreement NAB has secured Rs 5-6b for railways in the remaining lease period.
