ISLAMABAD - National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) continued strict legal action against overcharging in fares by public transport vehicles on Sunday.The retrieved amount was returned to the passengers on the spot. According to details, NH&MP Motorway Zone imposed fine on 172 PSVs and made them to return overcharged amount of Rs 305,000 to the passengers on the spot in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swabi, Chakwal, Behra, Pindi Bhattian, Sheikhupura, Lahore and Faisalabad, says a press statement issued here.Earlier on Saturday, Inspector General NH&MP, Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema, directed all zonal DIGs to initiate stern legal action on such complaints. The IG directed to impose heavy fines on such violators and take all necessary measures to retrieve the extra amount taken. He passed directions to impound vehicles of habitual lawbreakers.Upon these directions, officers of N-5 Central Zone (Lahore to Rahimyar Khan) took prompt action against dozens of PSVs and made them to return back thousands of overly charged amount to passengers near district Lahore, Sahiwal, Chichawatni, and Bahawalpur. Motorway Police Officers of N-5 North Zone (Peshawar to Lahore) took action against 122 violators and made them to return overly charged amount of more than Rs 100,000 to passengers and imposed heavy fine on 246 violators near district Peshawar, Nowshera, Kamra, Taxila, Gujar Khan, Dina and Jhelum.
