Condemning the killing of a polio worker in Peshawar and attacks on polio teams in the strongest possible words‚ Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso has said that those responsible for the attacks cannot weaken the resolve of the government and people of Pakistan to banish polio from the country.In a statement‚ he said that the government was committed to a polio-free Pakistan and no hurdle‚ howsoever big‚ would be allowed to stand in the way of this mission.Terming those martyred during the anti-polio campaigns as ‘national heroes and polio eradication was a national goal which was being nurtured by the sacrifices of our people.The Prime Minister urged the need of co-opting religious scholars‚ local khateebs‚ parliamentarians‚ and media for sensitizing the masses about the imperative of polio vaccination. He said that polio was a dangerous virus which played havoc with the future of our children and we were not ready to allow it free run as it was the question of our future.The Prime Minister has ordered an inquiry into the incident and directed the concerned authorities to give complete protection to polio teams. He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in peace who laid down her life for a national cause.
