ISLAMABAD - The staff of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) went on strike Thursday after the attendants of an expired patient beat them up alleging negligence.
According to the protesting staff, a female elderly patient, Shazia, was brought to the hospital three days ago with renal failure and critical condition. She expired during dialysis.
The attendants alleging negligence started beating up a female doctor, Dr. Huma and other nursing staff on which the staff in wards including doctors and nursing staff refused to perform their duties.
"She was already in critical condition. The medical staff provided every possible healthcare to the patient. It's not fair to blame the hospital staff on every death," said a protesting male nurse, Tahir.
Later, the administration of the Pims called the police and registered FIR against the attackers. The police arrested three attendants who had attacked the female staff. After four hours of the strike the staff resumed their duties.
