RAWALPINDI - The laptop distribution ceremony for Fatima Jinnah Women University students under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, phase-I, was held here on Wednesday.
Member National Assembly (MNA) Marriyum Aurangzeb was the chief guest of the ceremony while representative from Higher Education Commission Prof Dr G Raza Bhatti was guest of honour.
In the beginning, the chief guest shared the message of Chairperson Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, Maryam Nawaz Sharif with the students. She quoted her saying, “To foster and support youth of Pakistan, the federal government has initiated this programme. Youth constitute 60% of the whole population and with their participation economic prosperity of Pakistan will be achievable. Keep focus on your goals and strive hard to achieve excellence in life.”
She said present democratic government has fulfilled another promise of the prime minister made with the youth as the government considers that the youth is the real asset of the country.
Marriyam Aurangzeb said that future of Pakistan lies in the hands of young generation as today’s youth will lead the country in future and a great responsibility lies on their shoulder.
She elaborated various programmes of Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and said that 50% quota is reserved for women.
The female students of this institution deserve appreciation and it is hoped that they will bring a good name to the country, she added.
While addressing the audience Prof Dr G Raza Bhatti, member Human Resource Development, said that information Technology is a global mind which runs with the tool and one of the effective tools is the laptop which you got today.
He further said that merit and transparency were being ensured in all the schemes of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme.
He said that the Higher Education Commission has initiated the project of seven smart Universities.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Prof Dr Samina Amin Qadir, vice chancellor Fatima Jinnah Women University, said that the university has achieved status for academic excellence under the guidance and generous patronage of the government of Pakistan and Higher Education Commission.
Currently the university is ranked 4th among medium-sized sector universities of Pakistan and is the only women university to be included in the ranking of HEC.
The government of Pakistan is committed to implement the democratic vision of the society through education by spreading it digitally.
The Prime Minister and Chief Minister Punjab have made significant advancements for use of Information Technology in education sector.
Later, talking to APP, Aysha Saeed, Sundas, Iqra Chaudhary and Nadia Akram, the students of MPhil leading to PhD, Fatima Jinnah Women University, who got laptops, said that laptop scheme is very famous among the students because this scheme of free laptop is totally merit based and only for those students who have much marks percentage in their respective degrees.
They thanked Prime Muhammad Minister Nawaz Sharif for keeping his commitment with the students about the provision of laptops.
