Islamabad - A contempt of court petition against managing director of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation was moved yesterday before the Islamabad High Court.
The contempt of court petition was filed by Chaudhary Tanveer Akhtar Advocate through his counsel Raja Saimul Haq Satti Advocate.
The petitioner cited secretary Cabinet Division, chairman board of directors of PTDC and MD Chaudhay Kabir Ahmad as respondents. In the contempt petition, he adopted that the IHC bench through a detailed judgement declared that Ch Kabir Ahmed Khan was illegally appointed as managing director (MD) of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and after announcement of this decision Kabir is no more MD PTDC.
However, he contended that despite these court orders, Kabir Ahmad is still working as MD PTDC and it is clear violation of court’s orders. Therefore, the petitioner requested the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against him.
Earlier, Justice Noor-ul-Haq N Qureshi had noted in verdict, “He [Kabir Ahmed Khan] is no more managing director of the PTDC.” It added that the board of directors shall follow article 112 of the memorandum of association in appointment of MD as prescribed by the law.
Appointment of Kabir was challenged before the IHC by petitioner Ch Tanvir Akhtar through his counsel Raja Saimul Haq Satti adopting that the appointment was made without following legal procedure.
His appointment was made on April 04, 2014 after ministry of inter-provincial coordination had issued a notification in this regard. Legal counsel for the petitioner contended before the court that Kabir was a retired government servant while MD PTDC was a cadre post.
Appointment of Kabir blocked way for many aspiring candidates who could be promoted as MD PTDC.
