Three identical petitions have been filed against diplomatic immunity claimed in respect of US citizen Raymond Davis who has shot dead two persons in Lahore. These three constitutional petitions have been filed by advocate Muhammad Akram Chaudhry, Barrister Zafarullah and Afshan Ghazanfar. Advocate Muhammad Akram has prayed in his petition that Raymond David be put to trial without giving in to any pressure and he be tried in a local court of Pakistan and punished under the law of the land. In accordance with the constitution and law of the land the accused was not entitled to any immunity, the petitioner contended. Therefore, the interior ministry be directed to place name of the accused in ECL forthwith so that he could not leave the country in any illegal manner, petitioner requested. He further prayed the court to direct the federal and provincial governments to adhere to constitutional and legal norms fully in this matter. Barrister Zafar Ullah requested that US was pressurizing federal and provincial governments and offers for visa and visit of US were being made to the investigation officers. Earlier US diplomats who were arrested from Islamabad for possessing illegal arms were released under pressure. Raymond Davis is technical advisor and he is not having diplomatic visa, therefore, he does not enjoy diplomatic immunity. All the three petitioners requested the court that accused be tried as per constitution and law of the land. The concerned authorities of federal and Punjab government have been made respondents in the applications.
