ISLAMABAD - The government has finally summoned National Assembly session on coming Monday (2nd February), within 14 days of a requisition submitted by opposition parties to discuss the countrywide petrol crisis.
The government ostensibly avoided to call the session soon after the requisition submitted by almost all the opposition parties on 20th January, as it had attempted to sort out the matter after the sudden shortage of petrol in parts of the country.
The submitted requisition was signed by all the parliamentary opposition factions including PPP, ANP, MQM, PML-Q and JI.
The government cannot further delay the summoning of NA session after the submission of requisition as according to the rules, ‘it is bound to call a meeting within next at least 14 days starting from the day when requisition is submitted’.
Though the beleaguered government has controlled the petrol crisis yet opposition parties are set to seek the reasons behind this shortage.
The opposition parties are set to give tough time to the government in the upcoming session, as they want debate also on foreign policy with reference to the recent nuclear deal between India and US, and other domestic issues in detail.
The government would face a big challenge if its allied party (JUI-F) submitted a resolution to move in the National Assembly’s upcoming session to de-seat PTI’s lawmakers’ continuous absence.
