Islamabad Falcons, Wah win in Capital Cup Basketball

ISLAMABAD - Islamabad Falcons and Wah registered comfortable wins while Bahrians beat Islamabad Wolves by a single point on the second day of the third Capital Cup Basketball Tournament here Thursday. Dominating the proceedings right from the word go, Islamabad Falcons produced an excellent all-round game against Westridgians to live up to the billing as one of the favourites to lift the title at the Multi-Purpose Sports Park in Sector F-6. Scoring 24 points in the first quarter and 22 in the third, Islamabad Falcons comfortably won the match 67-17. Westridgians, who failed to even find one basket in the first quarter, struggled throughout the game. Qamar Riaz led Islamabad Falcons scorers with 17 points while Uzair Ahmed also had a good game for his 12. Sabi Qureshi (7), Bilal Bashir (4), Usman Ahmed (4) were Westridgians' main players. Wah also had an easy outing against The Others, winning 60-29. Amassing 50 points at the half-way stage and keeping The Others to just seven in that period, Wah could afford to play easy in the final two quarters. They scored just 10 points after the break while The Others added 22 to give some respectability to their score. Abdul Wahid was in great touch for Wah, contributing 28 high points while Naveedur Rehman helped in with 16. Musa Khan added 20 points to be The Others' main man and Adnan Tariq scored seven. In the last match of the day, Bahrians beat Islamabad Wolves 26-25 in a tight, low-scoring encounter. The players from both sides struggled to find the basketball throughout the match as it was 14-14 at the lemons. Even after the break, the sides seemed out of touch as Bahrians managed victory by the barest of margins. Fauzan Gilani top-scored for Bahrians with 13 points while Ahmed Hashmi added eight.
